If kids get relegated to the basement, then The Collective (thecollectivesnowmass.com) is redefining what that means. The multipurpose building recently debuted what’s now the brightest addition in the ongoing Base Village redevelopment, deploying 12 artists with skills in urban outdoor art, freestyle spray paint, graffiti and murals to transform the concrete industrial space into a whimsical wonderland. Most of the Denver-based artists have drawn attention for converting many of the warehouselike structures in the RiNo district into kaleidoscopic eye candy. In Snowmass, there’s an interactive music wall and an allusion to the ice age dig that excavated thousands of prehistoric bones in 2011, pictured here in a mural by Chad Bolsinger. An eight-person foosball table, a 133,000-ball play pit, arcade games and an Xbox center are some of the entertainment families will find here. It’s so engrossing that you might just have to drag the kids out to actually ski.
