This was one Southern California family’s reaction to their newly polished Colorado home.
Located on the private golf course community in The Club at Crested Butte, home construction was completed in 2022 and immediately called for a design that would be harmonious with its breathtaking views of the Paradise Divide.
Enlisted to tackle the task was the CEO of Colorado interior design company Blank Slate & Co., Susie Ver Alvino. She also happened to be the co-homeowner and mom of the aforementioned SoCal family.
With an interior designer’s eye sharpened by her self-described role as a “mom-prenuer,” she set out to cultivate a relaxed, calming and inviting space. With styling assistance by photographer Ryan Garvin and stylist Virginia Pham, Alvino hand-selected all interior finishes, cabinetry layouts, hard surfaces, furniture, fabric, lighting, artwork and accessories.
“We selected Crested Butte because of their expansive views, down-to-earth vibe and family-friendly town,” she explained. The home offers a tranquil escape from their lives in bustling Newport Beach, Calif. where she and her husband, real estate investor and developer Nick Alvino, are busy raising three young children.
Alvino further explains: “The vision was to draw the outdoors in with large picturesque windows to captivate the great outdoors.”
Her North Star guidance was to create a timeless and tonal design that offered a sense of serenity— an ideal ambiance for the large family holiday gatherings to come, which will also find support from the chef’s kitchen that is more than equipped to take on substantial family meals.
Alvino’s vision is evidently executed in nearly every corner of the house. Whether by the front door, unwinding in the living room, relaxing in the bath or curled up in bed, stunning mountain views are the focal point and are undistracted by tasteful neutral tones and wood finishes.
