While scrolling through Facebook last week, Kenny Smith, co-owner of Meridian Jewelers, found a news article on the latest COVID-19 restrictions. While he was reading the comment section overflowing with negative remarks, a thought popped into his head—how can we bring positivity into the community?
After brainstorming with his wife and co-owner Robin Smith, the pair devised the gift card matching program—an initiative that matches any local restaurant gift certificate purchase up to $200. Since it’s launch last Friday, there have been hundreds of requests from people looking to contribute to the restaurant community of Aspen. The response has been so overwhelming that the Aspen Chamber and Resort Association has pledged its funding to the matching program through Meridian Jewelers.
The appreciation for the Smith’s and Meridian Jewelers is truly felt throughout the community as local restaurant owners and thousands of residents in the industry concoct ways to spread more positivity and give their gratitude to the couple that first lit the spark.
