“We knew we wanted a destination wedding because we wanted to spend time with the people we love,” says Gracie.
THE COUPLE Gracie and My Yen met in their hometown of Chicago through friends. The start of their relationship lacked dramatics, and likewise, Gracie wanted an engagement with little fanfare. Yet, My Yen managed to surprise even Gracie—who thought she was prepared for it—with a photo album of their relationship and the life they’d built together, culminating with a picture of an engagement ring. “It exceeded all my expectations,” says Gracie.
The reception for 80 people was held in the Aspen Mountain Club.
THE PARTY The couple settled on Aspen as a destination wedding after the Zika virus eliminated any tropical venues for their guests. “We booked The Little Nell without even visiting and knew it would work out no matter what,” says My Yen. From a welcome reception at Aspen Kitchen to mountaintop dinner and dancing, the pair and their guests were blown away by the views and Colorado hospitality. When the couple wrote personal notecards to every guest at the wedding and then had everyone read them during dinner, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
Invitations were done by Paper Birch Designs.
WHAT WE LEARNED “Don’t get lost in the details. We later realized that some things didn’t go to plan but nobody knew,” says Gracie. “It’s important to surround yourself with people who know what they’re doing.”
Danger, the couple’s dog, made the trip to Aspen—and down the aisle—for their wedding.
