Aspen resident Dr. Jeremy James, founder and CEO of GolfForever, the leading at-home golf fitness training system that helps golfers play without limits, talks about his favorite places to play in the Roaring Fork Valley and the brand’s new partnership with world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler.
GolfForever Founder Jeremy James and world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler
You founded GolfForever in Aspen in 2019. What inspired you to start the training system? Before I founded the company, I had a practice here in Aspen for many years, and my team and I treated a lot of golfers for chronic joint and back pain. Golfers would come to our clinic from all over the world, and we kept seeing the same deficiencies in their care protocols, resulting in their inability to overcome pain. We took a much different approach to treating them—one based on behavioral change. We looked at their entire body and lifestyle, including golf, and made the necessary changes to the way they moved, trained and played. Not only did we relieve pain for the vast majority of golfers who came to see us, their games also dramatically improved as well due to the improvements in their body and athleticism. I knew we were on to something that would apply to the golfing population as a whole.
World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler using the GolfForever fitness system
Where is your favorite spot to play a round of golf in the Roaring Fork Valley? I really enjoy the Snowmass Club. It’s right by my house and is a unique and challenging course. It definitely keeps me on my toes and striving to be a better player.
Do you have any insider tips for folks who are visiting Aspen and are interested in golfing? This might sound odd but if you play a lot of golf in your everyday life where you live, take advantage of everything else this valley has to off er. Training in ways that your body isn’t used to is very important to build strength and endurance. This will usually translate onto the golf course. Go for a hike, ride a bike or book a session with any of the world-class personal trainers or chiropractors that we have here. They’re some of the best in the country. Between doing new outdoor activities or working with one of Aspen’s experts in the human body, you’re bound to identify areas in your body and fitness that need more work.
Congrats on your partnership with world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler! What does this mean for the brand? Thank you. Obviously this is huge for us because of the credibility and exposure that Scottie brings. More importantly, though, Scottie is a true believer in the GolfForever Swing Trainer and our digital training application. He began using the Swing Trainer in November of 2021 and gives it credit, along with his corresponding training routine with GolfForever instructor Dr. Troy Van Biezen, for helping him go on to become No. 1 this year. To have the No. 1 golfer represent our brand and for him to actually use and love our products is the best thing we could have asked for. It really is a dream come true for us and validates our products and training philosophy. On top of it all, Scottie is just a great guy and easy to work with.
How does the training system help improve performance not only for the pros like Scheffler but for amateur golfers as well? While we did treat PGA pros and other professional athletes in our clinic, we really specialized in the other 99% of golfers and everyday people, so I got to know the amateur golfers’ bodies very well. Amateurs are actually much easier to help because they typically have not done many of the foundational things they need to do with their bodies to improve their games. They typically focus much more on their swing and equipment. Amateur golfers typically see significant improvements very quickly in our GolfForever program because this is the first time they’ve had an expert guide them through improving their bodies by working on their hip strength and flexibility, core endurance, thoracic mobility and so on.
What is your vision for the brand and helping golfers over the next year or two? We will be rolling out a new product for golfers with stiffness and pain in the next 12 months that I fully expect to revolutionize the way that golfers can care for themselves without being overly reliant on massages. In addition we will be launching GolfForever 3.0, which will introduce many new features, including ways to compete with your friends in safe and fun fitness competitions. Finally, I couldn’t be more thrilled that we just partnered with Dick’s Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy, which will begin selling our GolfForever products in their stores very soon. We believe GolfForever will be the preeminent golf wellness brand in 2023 and beyond.
