Gay Ski Week is on the horizon, so style star Cameron Silver shares his luxe, snow-ready finds—as you don’t have to be a ski pro to look like one.
The 45th annual Aspen Gay Ski Week starts Jan. 16. Although I am invited, truth be told, I haven’t been on skis in nearly 45 years! I figured as long as I am going to humiliate myself on the slopes, I might as well do it in the very best style. In other words: Go big or go home.
I am unequivocally and absolutely technically inept when it comes to skiing. However, you’ll never know it looking at me since I am dressing the part of a jet-set pro thanks to a stunning Ogier maroon and red suit that certainly brings a bit of St. Moritz glamour to Ajax. Ogier has been family-owned since 1949, and putting on this ski suit is a major confidence builder to get me from training on the magic carpet to a Black Diamond run.
Whereas Ogier is the epitome of subtle elegance, Aztech Mountain brings out my inner snow mogul rock star with this Gonzo tie-dye nuke suit. Since 2013, local founders David Roth and Heifara Rutgers have brought a real edge to performancewear. If it’s good enough for Bode Miller, it’s more than good enough for this amateur snow bunny. I am also throwing in a white Prada onesie into the mix. My mantra will be “ski, but make it fashion.”
My real call to duty is après-ski, so I am packing some Diemme boots and a pair of Fendi men’s sabot slides that will work perfectly with Frame modern block denim patched jeans and an olive Pendleton sherpa zip-up jacket. I am all about my Paradise Bakery dark roast coffee, so Alanui has the ideal cozy ribbed charcoal cashmere jogger set that I will wear with a pair of Moncler Pepper quilted slip-on kicks for my daily sunrise coffee fix. Th e Casablanca signature chain-link monogram Jacquard shearling-trimmed jacket is a perfect retro-looking topper to keep me warm and chic.
Since I am a judge for the Downhill Costume Contest, I plan to stay warm while making a statement in a Giorgio Armani Neve taupe cashmere sweater and oversized wrap with some epic furry gloves and boots. Trust me, I will look subtle compared to the contestants. For window shopping, art strolls and dinner at Caribou Club, Brunello Cucinelli is my go-to whether it’s a winter-white ribbed cardigan and cords or a cashmere-lined vest with gray flannel slim cargo pants.
I am obviously packing a lot, and fortunately FPM-Fabbrica Pelletterie Milano has a suitcase called “trunk on wheels” from its Bank collection. Come to think of it, I may need two. I’ll also be sporting their white leather backpack with its unique signature silver butterfly lock. Th ere’s a Saturday pool party that I plan to avoid like the plague, but I have saved the big guns for the Top of the Mountain White Party. I will be riding up the gondola in this totally over-the-top Dolce & Gabbana white ostrich feather coat with silk satin graffiti lining. I don’t know what I am wearing underneath yet, but hey, it’s Aspen Gay Ski Week so anything goes, no? My only concern is if someone else shows up in the same ensemble. Birds of a feather do flock together.
