Iconic Local Connie Baker, Co-founder, Marble Distilling Co.
Head distiller Connie Baker jokes she switched from drugs to booze. Baker moved to Carbondale from New York City in 1992 and started a pharmaceutical communications company. She “retired” in 2007 and thought a stint at distilling school in Spokane, Wash., in 2010 would give her a new hobby. She quickly fell in love with distilling and began a four-year journey to build a craft distillery. In 2015, Marble Distilling Co. and The Distillery Inn opened its doors as the first of its kind: a sustainable distillery and the greenest inn (it’s a zero-waste facility) in North America. Marble supports many nonprofits, mainly focusing on sustainability, but Baker’s heart is tied to Colorado Animal Rescue, where she served on the board for several years. In addition to her love of vodka and whiskey, other (shelved for now) passions include flying small planes and off-the-beaten-path travel.
