Classic Romance

| December 1, 2015 | Parties

THE PARTY Consummate host Richard Edwards welcomed opera aficionados to his Aspen penthouse for the Aspen Music Festival and School’s annual black-tie Opera benefit, which began with cocktails and conversation before everyone went downstairs to the exclusive Caribou Club for a three-course dinner from chef Miles Angelo. Afterward, dodging raindrops, guests walked the block to the Wheeler Opera House for the Aspen Music Festival and School’s closing-night performance of French composer Charles Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette. THE GUESTS Alan Fletcher and Ron Schiller, Jan and John Sarpa, Billy Stolz, Shari Applebaum, Bruce and Barbara Berger, Carlo Marino, Stefan Edlis and Gael Neeson THE HIGHLIGHTS Listeners were entranced by this lesser-known adaptation of Shakepeare’s classic tale of ill-fated young lovers, which seemed especially powerful in the intimate confines of the Wheeler. At intermission, audience members mingled in the upstairs lobby and nibbled on sweet bites from Fusion Catering. A tragic opera, yes, but a most elegant evening for AMFS supporters. –Photos by Ryan Cutler
