Join this local bird count event, put on by Aspen Center for Environmental Studies on Dec. 15, to help tally up the birds in the Aspen area. This event takes place during the Audubon Christmas Bird Count that, at 115 years, is the world’s longest-running citizen science survey.
Birders of all experience levels are welcome and encouraged to participate in this important census that has helped assess the health of bird populations and guided conservation action since 1900. Across the Western Hemisphere, over 50,000 people count birds during local count events, many making the adventure of winter birding a seasonal tradition. Other ways to participate, in addition to the count day, are: feeder watching, owling, and count-week observations.
