Buttermilk Mountain Uphill Ascent

The City of Aspen and Aspen Skiing Company are partnering to offer a day of uphilling at Buttermilk Mountain, followed by a full moon dinner at Cliffhouse. This event will happen during regular operating hours and will have designated uphill routes and aid stations.

“Buttermilk continues to be the uphill universe for the Roaring Fork Valley and we welcome anyone that loves ascending our hill,” says Buttermilk mountain manager, Susan Cross. “The City of Aspen and the Forest Service have embraced our uphill initiatives and we’ve create a community that is bonded through climbing. While uphilling is currently on the rise, our community has a long history of pre-and post-season turns, backcountry tours, ski mountaineering and events based on climbing. We are excited the City of Aspen has partnered with us for the second year of the Buttermilk Mountain Uphill Ascent.”

All athletes, abilities and non-motorized equipment are welcome to participate. Options for uphilling include ski touring, trail running, snowshoeing, split boarding and hiking. Free uphill clinics will be offered on the hour starting at 9am with the last clinic at 1pm. Hours of operation for vendors and uphillers will be 9 am-3pm followed by a Full Moon dinner at the Cliffhouse from 5pm to 8pm During operating hours uphillers are welcome to download on the Summit Express chair.

Everyone must ski tour, hike, snowshoe or splitboard to the Cliffhouse for dinner. Free hot chocolate will be available on the deck from 5pm to 6pm. A la carte dinner specials, snacks, beverages and a cash bar will be available inside the Cliffhouse.

Buttermilk is open for normal business operation hours with food and beverage available for purchase at Bumps and Cliffhouse. Four Mountain Sports will be open with rental options. The base of Buttermilk Mountain will turn into a “Festival Village” with vendors, demo booths, guides, and clinics for the public. Parking is free.
