Base State Longevity’s relaxing design aesthetic
Sit back and relax—Base State Longevity opens in Aspen.
For a highly active, health-conscious community founded on “mind, body, spirit,” Aspen, until recently, saw a massive void in the health and wellness space.

That is, until Base State Longevity (basestatelongevity.com) opened its doors this winter, offering a host of holistic therapies—from cold plunge and infrared sauna to red light and hyperbaric oxygen—that previously ceased to exist at 7,908 feet.
“A lot of people have said it’s something that’s been missing in our community,” says Base State co-founder Chrissy O’Brien, “which is exactly why we’re doing this.”
Holistic therapies include infrared saunas.
Aspen’s debut longevity studio opened mid-December at 630 E. Hyman Avenue in the two-story space formerly home to Sandy’s Office Supply. Base State also boasts IV and massage therapies, a “Mind Body Studio,” and retail.
The goal is to restore the body’s stasis by combining applied science with ancient principles via said contrast therapies, says co-founder Jonathan Trivas. Building resilience is critical “so that our internal equilibrium (homeostasis) maintains even as external factors change,” he explains.

Hence the name “Base State”—Trivas’ and O’Brien’s labor of love nearly three years in the making. The two tapped scientific director Sealy Hambright, PhD, a former principal investigator at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, to help lead the show.

Among Hambright’s many accolades, the scientific director uncovered groundbreaking research on cell death mechanisms and their role in neurodegenerative disease while completing his PhD in neurobiology at the Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies at UT Health San Antonio.
Hambright believes the secret to longevity lies within scientific insight and holistic measures in conjunction with one’s genetic blueprint.
Trivas knows this firsthand after suffering chronic inflammation and debilitating back pain for 15 years. The practices he implemented, now available to Aspen at Base State, “completely changed” his life.

The team wants to see Base State serve as a communal wellness hub in Aspen. The “Mind Body Studio,” specifically, was designed to host classes centered around mindfulness—breathwork, yoga, meditation, sound bath and the like—led by local practitioners and instructors.
Mindfulness is a theme that runs true throughout every square inch of Base State, from its design and aesthetic featuring earth tones, natural stone, and timber to the clean and carefully vetted products sold in its street-level retail shop.
“We only offer products and services we believe in,” O’Brien says.
