Anderson Ranch Arts Center is kicking off the spring season with its first-ever Sled Derby. Before the big race day on February 21 where ten teams of two take off (one adult and one 9-12-year-old child), the Ranch will be holding a free mini sled building workshops on February 13. The half-day sessions are for the kids to learn and use woodworking skills to create their very own toboggan kits designed and handcrafted by the Ranch Artistic staff—with help from the studio coordinators. Teams will leave the workshop with their assembled sleds and a kit of supplies for unique, at-home decoration and finishing-touches.
On Derby day, costumes are highly encouraged and winter and safety apparel are required—don’t forget your helmets, goggles and mittens! As the teams sled down the Ranch’s custom made track, fans will be provided with hot cocoa, cookies and crafts for the kiddos. Come early and stay late—team check in is at 10AM and prizes for toboggan teams will be awarded at the end of the event. Interested in participating in the Sled Derby?
