Aspen NORML Legal Seminar May 30-June 1 Through its local chapters, in courtrooms and on the Hill, the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, aka NORML, has been fighting the good fight since 1970, when it was founded by Keith Stroup, iconic activist and longtime friend of Hunter S. Thompson. Every summer, the nonprofit brings together the country’s top thought leaders in cannabis law and policy reform for full days of seminars followed by legendary smoke sessions.
Aspen Ideas: Health June 20-23 One of the festival’s official program tracks this year, Sex, Drugs, and Rock-and-Roll will examine the contradiction of what Life magazine called in 1969 “the sacraments of the counterculture” and how they play a role in today’s society where marijuana is legal and psychedelics are being studied to ease mental illness.
Aspen High Summit TBA This annual escape for high-profile entertainment and music executives was started by former local Jim Lewi, and it merged with cannabis investor network Arcview in 2017 to present programming examining the intersections of the two industries and how each can work together in preparation for the inevitable: the federal legalization of cannabis.
Ellementa Aspen Ongoing Wendy Elkin, a certified nutritional therapy practitioner and a certified functional diagnostic practitioner through her Aspen-based practice Ascend to Wellness, recently launched a local chapter of Ellementa, an international women’s cannabis education network. Monthly gatherings welcome experts to tackle topics such as cannabis and sex, cannabis-assisted psychotherapy, cannabis-infused food, and microdosing for stress, anxiety and depression.
