Patti LaBelle singing John Lennon’s “Imagine” in the Benedict Music Tent in mid-May seems like odd timing, but an estimated 1.3 million people saw the performance—thanks to the livestreaming of the Earth’s Call concert. The 74-year-old showed she’s still got it, ending the night—joined by other entertainers—with “Takin’ it to the Streets.” In between Anthony Hamilton, Natalia Lafourcade, the South African group Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Colbie Caillat, Earth’s Call founder Spike Buckley took the stage to draw awareness to the nonprofit’s pledge of $50 million to Lever for Change to save the planet from the effects of climate change. Though the event came together seemingly in the span of a few weeks, it was a success; in addition to livestreaming, it drew close to 2,000 people to the tent and was followed by seminars and call-to-action conversations the next day.
