A luxe remodel redefines a Tiehack townhome.
“I have quite a wild imagination,” shares Aspen and San Antonio-based Lee Evans Lee about the interior design of the contemporary, part-time Tiehack townhome she shares with her husband and teenage son. “It was quite magical about all of us coming together on this project.”
The ‘all of us’ to which she refers includes Paul Cathers, owner of Cathers Home, and its Interior Designers Preethi Rajaratnam and Amanda Furlong, who had previously ‘made the magic happen’ at Lee’s new Mrs Momma Bear Workwear shop in Aspen. “They took my wild thoughts and got it done,” she says.
The restful primary suite features variations of dark textures, materials and tones.
The home’s primary aesthetic is vibrant, luxe and avant-garde. Its black steel interior stairway features levels connected by a floating. Parisian influences inspired by the family’s travels mesh seamlessly with mountain-influenced textiles. Patterns and colors—including black, which Lee is particularly fond of—add a sense of drama. Contemporary lighting, including a Studio Como Apparatus Cloud light fixture, imbues elegance.
The main entry of the home is connected via a floating black steel interior stairway. The space is impacted by colorful artwork.
Inspired by Lee’s vision for the space, the designers introduced calming color and creative patterns into the primary suite for what Furlong describes as “a soothing oasis with the emphasis on different variations of black textures and tones throughout the room.” Views of the surrounding landscape add a natural element to the design year-round.
“It was one magical collaboration. Everything I dreamed or thought of was incorporated.” –LEE EVANS LEE
The son’s bedroom was enlivened with Parisian influences, such as large-scale art depicting iconic Paris landmarks softened by incorporating plush materials and bold colors like a velvet red upholstered bed accented with a faux gold fur throw. Like Lee’s, the room also has black accents in bedding, carpet and lighting, which, Furlong notes, “adds a powerful contrast to the plush textures.” Dark hunter-green textured wallpaper, a black vanity and French-designed crystal wall sconces in his en suite bathroom continue the theme.
The interior of the son’s room is inspired in coloration and design by visits to Paris.
About the result, Lee shares, “It was one magical collaboration. Everything I dreamed or thought of was incorporated.”

“This has been one of the most exciting, unique jobs we’ve ever had, the black and white design a diversification of Cathers’ work,” adds Rajaratnam. “Lee is so passionate. She’s every designer’s dream.”
