For Aspen-based philanthropists Amy and Gary Green, giving back is a family tradition.

As the recent chairwoman of May’s Fire & Ice Gala, Aspenite and former TV sports reporter Amy Green clearly has a passion for philanthropy… And throwing a spectacular party. From the memorable performance by Darryl McDaniels from RUN DMC to the money raised to support of the organization’s mission to end the world hunger crisis, the Greens hope to impact real change in their community. We checked in with the chic, multi-tasking mom to learn more about her philanthropic efforts—and her entertaining essentials for the season.
What inspired your move to Aspen? Gary and I are long-time New Yorkers that had been coming to Aspen for the winter season. Last year, we had such a wonderful time and met so many incredible people, and we felt this would be a great place to raise children with wonderful schools in an amazing community.

What do you love most about living in Aspen? What we love most about Aspen is the beautiful outdoors, the skiing, the fresh air, and the overall healthy lifestyle here. Aspen is also a very fun, small town with a beautiful community of people coming and going and has so much culture, art, and creativity. It truly is small living but with everything a big city offers. I enjoy nothing more more than living a healthy lifestyle, living outdoors, and waking up to a beautiful view of animals, including elk, horses, and more.

The area has so many wonderful and worthwhile causes. How did you decide to get involved with causes like the 100 Billion Meals Challenge & The Future of Food? Our family has been awarded and honored for our philanthropic work. I have actively been an ambassador for the African Community & Conservation Foundation (ACCF) and the Tusk Trust, Prince William’s charity for anti-poaching and feeding Africa. These three charities all support the climate, the ability to produce fertilizer, and support agricultural efforts in Africa to feed the world and end world hunger. The most important thing to me is protecting our earth, our environment, and our animals and changing the hunger crisis in the world. I want my daughters to grow up in a world where they can see elephants, tigers and lions. I want my girls to walk the earth and for it to be clean and the environment to be healthy. And I want to teach them to give back and be kind. No child should go hungry without a meal. We feel so blessed and honored to have hosted the first Fire & Ice gala at the ASPENX Mountain Club in March to bring the Aspen community together and show our support toward ending the world hunger crisis. We are so grateful to have helped raised so much money for the 100 Billion meals challenge with the generous help of Unicef matching dollar for dollar and the support from the stronger foundation.

Why do you think giving back to the community is so important as you put down roots in Aspen? It is important for my family to give back to the community as we put roots down in Aspen because this will be our home where our children grow up. It is essential to support our community in every way we can, and donating to our local food banks like Food Bank of the Rockies, LIFT-UP Aspen Food Pantry, and more help keep our Aspen roots strong. We want to protect our new home and see it thrive and we are so excited to be a part of such a special community.
