For many, the holiday season starts after Thanksgiving. But for Sam Hull, it happens all year round. As the founder of the globally influenced design studio House of Pixen, Hull has made holiday cheer his business.

House of Pixen’s eye-catching ornaments are made with luxurious materials like velvet, crystal, pearls, mouth-blown glass, rhinestones and more. The design house ensures each limited edition product is a show-stopper from all angles, adding texture, color and sparkle to every piece. “I want to affect all the senses at once and encapsulate the beauty we are all naturally attracted to,” says Hull.

He discovered his talent for festive decor when working as the holiday designer for the historic Virgil and Beulah Crum House in Portland, Oregon. “The family-in-residence requested handmade items from stockings to ornaments that varied every year,” he recalls. His time as the creative director for the Providence Festival of Trees further opened his eyes to the need for “higher quality, less processed” holiday decor — a key factor in establishing House of Pixen with a more mindful approach to business.

As a minority business owner, Hull seeks to collaborate with fellow minority- and women-owned businesses to bring his designs to life. “I prefer to work with people who have faced similar challenges as it allows for a quicker fusion of language, idea and process,” he notes. House of Pixen also offers profit sharing to its partners and works primarily with non-toxic, natural materials.

This year, give your tree a makeover you can feel good about. From jewel-encrusted adornments to hand-sewn tree skirts, House of Pixen’s heirloom-quality decorations are sure to dazzle and delight. Here are a few of our favorites.
