There is truly nowhere more magical to spend the winter holidays than Aspen’s winter wonderland. December 20th kicks off the annual 12 Days of Aspen, a series of family friendly winter activities all around town. The town truly comes to life for the holiday season with the Christmas trees lit and bright. Step into the holiday spirit by celebrating a classic winter tradition. There are numerous tree lightings to check out this holiday season, including the historic Sardy House, The Little Nell, and the St. Regis. Ice Skating

Many of Aspen’s top quality restaurants offer indulgent and delicious Christmas dinners and holiday dining. A number of outstanding establishments offer pre-fixe, multi-course menus that are perfect for savoring a festive Christmas meal with your loved ones. One notable feast option is the 5-course pre-fixe Christmas Eve dinner served by Prospect at the Hotel Jerome. At $195 per adult and $55 per child, the meal is sure to be exquisite. In addition, Ajax Tavern offers a Christmas Day special set at $195++ per guest with a $100 wine pairing option, $50++ per child. The Nutcracker in Aspen
In between feasts and Christmas parties, don’t forget to set aside some time to take in a Christmas cultural classic. Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker ballet is returning to Aspen and bringing fun for the whole family along with it. This Christmas classic is sure to warm hearts with its imaginative and magic-filled tale of a young girl whose magic nutcracker comes to life and transports her to the Land of Sweets, where she meets the Sugar Plum Fairy and other lively characters. The Wheeler Opera House, one of Aspen’s historical venues, welcomes families of the Roaring Fork Valley this December to take in The Nutcracker and create a tradition for years to come.
Ullr Nights
Elk Camp on Snowmass is honoring Nordic Christmas traditions with its beloved Ullr Nights, a celebration of the Norse god of snow and the winter season. Take the gondola up to Elk Camp for an evening of fun, food and celebrations. Bonfires are dotted throughout the park to ward off the winter chill, and Aspenites of all ages are encouraged to stop by to partake in this Nordic tradition. Activities include a ride on the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster, snowbiking, tubing and more. For those looking to relax by the bonfire, don’t miss out on the à la carte culinary offerings or s’mores and cocoa.
Handel’s Messiah
One of Aspen’s longest running musical traditions is back in 2021, with Aspen Choral Society’s performance of Handel’s Messiah. This will be the 45th annual performance of Handel’s famous piece, perhaps the most well-known choral composition in history. This performance will be extra special, as New York composer Gerald Cohen has contributed new choral movements to the entirety of the Messiah. This year's Messiah will be memorable for a variety of reasons, including the premiere of Cohen’s new arrangement- this performance will also mark the return of in-person rehearsals and final show. Winter Snowmobile Tours

Mission Mt. Mangart at the Wheeler Opera House
Gather friends and family for the exciting world premiere of the documentary film Mission Mt. Mangart at Aspen’s Wheeler Opera House on December 20th. The documentary covers the development, achievements and Colorado connections of the famous light infantry unit of WWII. The 10th Mountain Division was formed for combat in some of the most dangerous mountain conditions of the war, and consisted of some of the most heroic skiiers and mountaineers internationally. The film follows the adventures of the unit, accompanied by an original soundtrack by composer Carlo Nicolau. Holiday Crafting with Red Brick Arts
Starting December 21st, Aspen’s Red Brick Center for the Arts is hosting holiday crafting sessions to celebrate the season creatively. Arts educator Natalie Squillante will be leading attendees through a number of multimedia crafts surrounding holiday themes, with potential mediums including collage, painting, sculpture and more. Children below the age of 5 are invited for age-appropriate crafts for the first house, while big kids can take over for the latter half of the event. Holiday Cabaret at the Hotel Jerome
Theatre Aspen presents its annual Holiday Cabaret series, featuring performances by a Broadway award-winning cast. The evening takes place in the iconic Hotel Jerome, with a delicious gourmet dinner followed by an hour of Broadway, pop and holiday favorite tunes. This year will also feature a special appearance by two very talented members of DanceAspen. While the event is usually 21+, for the very first time this year there will be a special après ski performance for musical fans of all ages. Concert at Belly Up
A trip to Aspen wouldn’t be complete without attending a show at the Belly Up. Dillon Francis, a world famous American electronic musician and Dj, will be performing at the intimate venue on December 23rd. A few of Dillon Francis’s top hits include Get Low, Touch, and Say Less. This show is 21+ and a valid ID as well as proof of COVID-19 vaccination are required for admission. Snowflake Decorating + "Frozen" Movie Marathon at the Pitkin County Library
The weather outside is frightful, but inside the Pitkin County Library things could not be more delightful. Come join on the morning of December 23rd for a festive day of crafts, followed by a marathon of Disney’s Frozen movies. Your family will be happy to bring home glittering, beautiful snowflakes as well as take in this family holiday classic! This event of free of charge, so don’t miss out on this fun holiday activity.
